HOW TO MEASURE

HOW TO MEASURE

Wigs come in a range of different sizes and it's important to take accurate head measurements to ensure you're buying the correct size for you. It should fit like a glove! A wig should feel as secure and comfortable as possible.

Follow the below directions, and take no less than six measurements to ensure the perfect fit!

HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE

The first measurement is for the circumference of the wig, so the measurement is taken along the natural hairline. To capture this measurement, place the end of the measuring tape at the center of the forehead - right at the hairline or a little below - wherever you would like it to hit your forehead. Pull the measuring tape around behind the ears, down to the nape of the neck - at the base of the head/scalp - and then up around the other side, behind the ears, to meet at the center of your forehead.

FRONT TO NAPE

The second measurement is from the front of your hairline to the back, or nape of your neck. To capture this measurement, place the measuring tape at the same place on the forehead as you did for the circumference measurement. For this one, it’s extra important that the hair lies as flat as possible - either in braids or parted down the middle and pulled into two ponytails, so that the scalp is exposed in a straight line. Pull the measuring tape straight back down the center to the nape of your neck - where the scalp ends at the base of the head.

TEMPLE TO TEMPLE

The third measurement is from one temple to the other. To capture this measurement, place the measuring tape against the hairline at one temple, and stretch it around the back of your head to the hairline at the other temple.
Please note, the measuring tape should follow a straight line from front to back and around the largest part of the head.

LENGTH OF NAPE

The fourth measurement is the easiest - it’s the length of the hairline at the nape of the neck, which falls in a curved line at the base of the head. To measure, simply place the measuring tape at one side where the hairline begins to turn upward toward the ears - and measure to the other side where it does the same thing. For reference, most people have a nape measurement that is around four inches long.

EAR TO EAR

The fifth measurement is particularly important for a frontal wig; it measures the front hairline from one ear to another. To do this, place the end of the measuring tape where the top of one ear connects to the head, stretch it up the hairline, along the forehead, and down to the same point on the other ear.

Tip from our cosmetologist: if you’re going glue-less, subtract one inch from this measurement to ensure a perfect fit. Ear top to ear top.

LIKE A HEADBAND

The sixth and last measurement is from the top of one ear top to the other. This one is super important because everyone’s head is shaped differently. Some of us have more rounded skulls, while others are more or less flat across the top. This measurement ensures that the wig sits firmly over the top of the head – we don’t want the wig to fall short before reaching your ears nor do we want it to cover them!

Note: this is similar to where you would wear a headband (just a little more on top of the ear, rather than where a headband would sit behind the ear).

ASK OUR STYLIST

ASK OUR STYLIST

Ok, so is there really an honest advantage to purchasing real human hair? Let's talk about a few...

Human hair absolutely has the best overall look and feel because... it is REAL hair. Let's face it, it has unbeatable shine, movement and versatility that truly cannot be matched with synthetic fibers. Just like our hair, we can shape, style and gently alter human hair to match our desire. The durability, with proper gentle wig care, will last much longer and here's the good news… you can donate your piece when you no longer want to rock it because there are opportunities to recycle human hair.

Let's also mention:

  1. There's a better "fit to your head" factor as premium hair has a variety of caps, hairlines, lace and usage options (one example is the way you would wear a sports wig has a different hairline and use than a full wig).
  2. Human hair wigs are not as prone to knotting and frizz. Synthetic, because it is not natural, has been known to bunch, knot and frizz in areas where the wearer sweats (neckline, hairline) are two common areas.
  3. Ideal outcome. A human hair wig is the best quality due to the tedious process in intricately sewing piece by piece by master wig crafters. This enables a customer to have a more natural and accurate look that can be altered by a stylist (highlights added, hair curled, straightened etc).
  4. Longevity! Synthetic wigs do not last a fraction of the time as human hair does. If gently handled with proper human hair wig care, they can last years. And as mentioned above, they are sought after to be donated.

Closing thought, quality over quantity always wins. The reasons mentioned are unrivaled and you will end up saving money, time, and many headaches in the long run.

WASHING YOUR WIG

WASHING YOUR WIG

Should you wash your human hair wig before wearing it?

Yes, for best results, you should shampoo and condition your human hair wigs before you style and wear them. Human hair typically arrives with a conditioner that is used to preserve the style and retain moisture during shipment. If this coating is not washed off, you will have a harder time styling your hair for the first time.

Note: this does NOT apply to our premiere collection wigs, or following a customize order. Our in-house cosmetologist takes care of washing and styling your wig following a custom color and/or highlights.

Below we answer some of your questions for washing your brand new Integrity Wigs' piece.

CAN YOU WASH A HUMAN HAIR WIG WITH REGULAR SHAMPOO?
Human hair wigs can be washed with regular shampoo, but it’s recommended you use products formulated for color treated hair. Keep in mind human hair has been chemically treated and unlike our own hair, it is not moisturized naturally. Avoid clarifying shampoos as these are designed to strip buildup and will cause your wig to be dry and weak.

CAN I WASH MY HUMAN HAIR WIG WITH HOT WATER?
When washing any wig, it’s best to use lukewarm to cool water. Hot water can dry out the hair. Note, cold water can make it harder to rinse shampoo and any product you apply to the hair.

WHICH OIL IS BEST FOR HUMAN HAIR WIGS?
Human hair ends love added moisture and oils or serums. Human hair ends are subject to the most damage so adding a little extra care is important. Professional-grade oils are suggested - argon oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, and olive oil are the most commonly used natural ingredients. Avoid placing at the root or base of the wig.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WIG SHAMPOO AND REGULAR SHAMPOO?
Wig shampoos are made to clean and freshen without striping the hair or fiber. Human hair products are designed for our own hair and scalp so usually have more cleansing agents that make it strong enough to remove natural oils and product build up. Human hair shampoos are made to remove unwanted oils so it’s important to condition after to add back some of that moisture. Regular shampoo can be used however, we don’t recommend it on every wash as it can be stripping over time.

PREPARE YOUR WIG FOR WASHING
Gently remove tangles with a wide-tooth comb. Start at the ends and slowly work toward the roots to avoid damage. It is recommended that a wig-specific brush be used for detangling.

WASH
Do not soak or submerge product. Only rinse by holding the hair under cool running water. Place a small amount of shampoo for color-treated hair in your hand, evenly and gently stroke it through the hair in a downwards motion from the roots to the ends. Rinse by holding under cool running water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze to press out excess water. Do not twist or wring.

      CONDITION
Place a small amount of conditioner for color-treated hair in your hand, evenly and gently work it through the hair in a downwards motion from the mid-shaft. Avoid base and root. Leave conditioner on for 1-2 minutes - do not exceed 3-5 minutes.
Rinse by holding under cool running water until the water runs clear. Gently squeeze or use a clean, dry towel to press out excess water. Do not twist or wring.
          And finally,

          DRYING YOUR WIG(S)
Heat-styling vs air drying is highly recommended. Heat smooths the cuticle making it look and feel softer. If you plan on taking your human hair wig or hairpiece to a stylist to color, be sure to remind them it must be washed first. The coating will affect how color absorbs and should always be washed prior to chemically treating. We recommend storing on a wig form rather than laying flat to keep its shape.
