Finding Your Perfect Fit
A hair topper is designed to blend seamlessly with your natural hair, so getting the right measurements is essential for a natural, comfortable fit. Follow these simple steps to find your perfect topper size.
What You'll Need
- A soft measuring tape
- A mirror
- Hair clips or pins to section your hair
Step 1: Identify Your Coverage Area
Part your hair and locate the area where you need coverage — this is typically the crown, top, or front of the head. Use clips to pin back the surrounding hair so you can clearly see the area you want to cover.
Step 2: Measure the Base Size
Using your soft measuring tape, measure the coverage area from front to back (length) and from side to side (width). For example, a common topper base size is 6" x 6" or 5" x 5". Write down both measurements.
Step 3: Measure Your Head Circumference
Place the measuring tape around the perimeter of your head, starting at your hairline at the forehead, going behind one ear, across the nape of your neck, behind the other ear, and back to the start. This helps ensure the topper clips will attach securely.
Step 4: Check Your Part
Note where your natural part falls — center, left, or right. Most toppers are designed with a specific part direction, so choosing one that matches your natural part will give you the most seamless look.
Tips for the Best Fit
- When in doubt, size up — a slightly larger base is easier to blend than one that's too small
- Consider the length and texture of your natural hair when choosing a topper style
- If you have fine or thinning hair, look for toppers with a monofilament or silk top base for the most natural appearance
